Events and Classes

Shoppe Policies   NA   Staff

In the event of bad weather, if West Delaware School cancels classes, we will cancel classes as well. If you are unsure, please call the shop at (563) 927-8017 before you travel.

If you do not see a class that interests you or the time does not work for you, all you need to do is find two friends, call us with what you would like to learn, and we'll schedule a class for you and your friends.

Return the Favor   Free   Carol Dighton
1st Tuesday of each month @ 5:00 or later...

Return the Favor is a group that meets once a month to make quilts for displaced children in the area.  We make quilts for toddlers-high school students that have transitioned into foster care through Lutheran Services of Iowa.  There is a job for everyone: sewing, cutting, sorting, and pressing.  We provide a light supper and usually work until close to 8:00. Our first meeting will be on January 3.

Gone Quiltin'   Free   Kathy H.
6:30-8:00 PM: The third Tuesday of each month

Join this great group every 3rd Tuesday of the month, right at the shop, as we share and laugh and learn from each other.     Some plans for the year?  Participate in a mystery quilt, maybe some fun challenges involving Iowa-based designers, or learning new ways to make traditional quilt blocks.....and it just goes on from there!   There is no cost - just lots of fun with fellow quilters, who will make you ooh and ahh, laugh a little bit, and always take away something new learned.   So - mark your calendars for the 3rd Tuesday of each month - 6:30pm -   Come and have fun with us!

Beginning Quilting   $40+   Carol
Wednesday, January 17, 24, 31, Feb. 7, and Thursday Feb. 22 1-4 or 6-9

This is a five session class that features Alex Anderson's new book, Make Your First Quilt.  You will learn the basics of quilting from fabric selection to machine quilting and binding.  You will receive a supply list when you register for the class.  With your paid registration, you will receive a free rotary cutter.  Book purchase required.

Note:  We assume that you know how to use your sewing machine and how to sew a straight line.  It  is important that you are familiar with threading your machine, winding a bobbin, etc.

T-Shirt Quilt Class   $40+   Kathy W.
Thursday, January 11,18 and Feb. 1: 6-9

Turn those favorite T-shirts into a favorite quilt! In this three-session class you will learn how to cut the T-shirts into quilt blocks, arrange them, sew on sashing strips and add an outer border. The last class will teach you how to apply the binding to the finished quilt. This class requires working on the project at home and does not teach you how to quilt the three layers together. The T-shirt quilt can be expensive to make averaging $50 for fabrics and then extra to have the quilt machine quilted. It is a one-of-a-kind quilt made with memories and love.
